This unique white paper presents highlights from a statewide survey of health care providers in Maine conducted by the Lunder-Dineen Health Education Alliance of Maine during mid- to late 2012. The survey included qualitative and qualitative components and was designed to complete 150 interviews with physicians, nurses, and nurse practitioners.

Information itself is often education, and by sharing highlights from this unique research, we seek to inform Maine on where its health care providers say needs exist for meaningful education. That way, all stakeholders – health systems, legislators, hospitals, educators, community practices, and individual clinicians – can move towards meeting those needs and improving the health of Maine residents.

The State of Health Care Education in Maine white paper includes recommendations for Maine-based providers and health systems, as well as charts and analysis on:

- Survey methodology and participant demographics
- Clinician preference for Maine-tailored education
- Clinician access to technology
- Sources for ongoing education opportunities
- Barriers to obtaining education
- Average education budgets
- Preferred learning formats
- Educational interests (including specific topics and a breakdown between physicians and nurses)
